Events & Information
Literacy Day: Our Literacy Day at Woodrow Wilson
Middle School on Saturday February 28, 2004 was a huge success! As
part of our service learning component, candidates for induction to our
chapter gave a few hours of their Saturday morning to participate in this
wonderful event. In preparation, the candidates made & decorated
posters, donated candy, assembled take-home bags for the students, and prepared
engaging lessons & activities utilizing the inspiring works of children's
author/illustrator, Patricia Polacco. They were then given the opportunity
to team-teach their lessons to over 130 Wilson sixth graders. The
day culminated with a raffle, doughnuts & juice, and tons of free books
to help extend literacy into the children's homes. It was a wonderful
experience for all involved! Many thanks to the principal & staff
at Wilson for allowing Holy Family to partner with them in this event. A
special thanks is extended to Mr. Michael Wolf, Assistant Principal, for
his time, energy & enthusiasm - this success story would not have been
possible without him!
