CO-OP WORKS

Cooperative Education and Internships – a professional work opportunity meant to enhance academic coursework.  Co-op positions are paid and internship positions are not.  Both offer academic credit.  The Co-op Department, located in Lourdes Hall, will be moving to the new Education Technology building in August.  We have opportunities for ALL MAJORS in the Schools of Business and Arts and Sciences.  We send jobs for Nursing and Education majors to their respective school deans since they exist on a non-credit basis.  Students are encouraged to visit our web site to seek potential companies/organizations to consider for placement.  Staff members also visit classes by invitation of the faculty.  Please contact us to make an appointment to apply for co-op or internship placement anytime. 

The three programs available to both full-time and part-time students:

1.     Parallel Program – the most popular of the three programs, students attend classes and at the same time obtain vitally needed practical experience in their chosen field of study.

2.     Job Enrichment – for the student who is already working and is offered a chance to earn academic credit either working in another department, or assigned a special project.

3.     Alternating – the student alternates full-time periods of work with full-time periods of study.

Prerequisites: Resume approved by a member of the Co-op Department, view the video Gettinghired.com on closed reserve at the University Library or Career Services Office, written Learning Objectives on what you hope to gain from the co-op or internship experience reviewed by and signed off on by a faculty member of your choice.

National and international programs are also available in the Walt Disney World College Program in Florida, DisneyLand of Paris, Marne la Vallé, France; Quebec, Canada. The Washington Center and federal agencies, throughout Washington, D.C., as well as others.

COMM, MNMK – 5K Logistics, Warminster, PA, is an international freight forwarder. We arrange the shipment of freight throughout the supply chain. We specialize in complicated, large and heavy “project           freight, which is typically equipment and components related to construction, renovation and upgrade products. The intern will assist the sales department with creating new marketing and business development initiatives as well as improve existing methods. The intern will assist in  message creation, database development, solicitation and business contact programs, power point presentations, outreach letters and brochures development, website upgrades, etc. NO SALES WORK. CRJU – Abington Police Department, Abington, PA.  Student must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.  Student will perform administrative duties and work with all divisions within the police department.  Unpaid.

COMM, MNMK - Action Arts Theater Company, Cheltenham, PA, is a dynamic, non-profit theater production corporation formed by an alliance of actors, artists, and local business people.  Action Arts strives to stage shows that are intellectually, emotionally, and artistically rewarding.  Responsibilities: designing and executing marketing campaigns for our shows, and attending theater functions and press events.  Unpaid.

CMIS, COMM - Advantage One Insurance and Financial Services, Inc., Bensalem, PA, is looking for a student intern to work on web design, along with supporting work to facilitate the advancement of their different web site properties.  Students must be able to work 15 to 20 hours a week.  Salary open to discussion.

COMM, MNMK - The A&E Television Networks, New York, NY, A&E and The history Channel, have several exciting, 10-week internship opportunities throughout the company. The program generally runs from mid-June through mid-August. All internships are full-time, Monday - Friday, 9:00-5:00 p.m. (plus overtime, as required). SPMM - ALLSPORT Marketing, LLC, Feasterville, PA - A small company which specializes in handling sporting facilities and the back end of sporting events for national sporting competition organizers and collegiate sporting teams and clubs that travel to participate in tournaments and competitions.  Interns get a chance to actually take a supportive role in the overall marketing and management of sporting events with opportunities to participate in the following:  planning meetings, sponsorship negotiations, event staff, registration, trade show set-up, research, data entry, sales and electronic layouts.  Paid with opportunity to earn bonuses and commissions for sponsorship programs with certain organizers.

COMM, MNMK - The Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, Philadelphia, PA, is an alliance of family members and professionals dedicated to helping people with Alzheimer's disease and their families through education, advocacy, and support. ARTS, BUSI, MNMK - Angelo Brothers, Philadelphia, PA, is a worldwide company that manufactures Westinghouse light bulbs and decorative light products. The company has a full-service advertising department that designs packaging for their products as well as private labels. The department also creates their own collateral including catalogs, brochures, ads and merchandising materials. This is a Financial Servicing company that issues credit cards (Visa and Mastercards) and provides the collections, processing and servicing in their Glen Mills office. ACCT, CMIS, FINC - ARAMARK, Philadelphia (Center City), PA. The ideal internship candidate should be interested in the service industry and management opportunities. They should also be willing to work in a variety of environments and in different roles. SPMM – Archbishop Ryan High School, Northeast Philadelphia.  Intern will assist Athletic Director with the daily activities of this office.  This includes scheduling, transportation and site management along with other duties.

COMM, MNMK – Aroundphilly.com, Philadelphia, PA., is an online city guide providing entertainment and lifestyle information and establishment listings.  In addition, the company is a web development company with more than 200 web sites in the Northeast.   The student will do light data entry, perform research for events in the area, and work on feature articles and press releases.  Interns must work a minimum of twelve hours per week.  Unpaid.

ACCT, COMM, FINC, MNMK – ASI - Advertising Specialty Institute, Trevose, PA, is the largest business-to-business media organization for the promotional product and advertising industry, offering award-winning publishing, marketing and ASI e-commerce services. ASI produces catalogs, directories, newsletters, magazines, websites, etc. COMM interns could be writing for ASI’s magazines and e-newsletters. CRJU, POLS – Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP), various locations in Pennsylvania, has both a fall and spring internship opportunity available to juniors and seniors of private colleges.  The internship would be part-time for a total of 200 hours for the semester.  Hours worked per week and starting and completion dates for the internship would be negotiable.  AICUP hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and students would be expected to set their hours accordingly. Awbury is a 55-acre Arboretum, originally the private estate of the Cope-Haines family, an extended clan of wealthy Quaker shipping merchants. COMM - Banyan Productions, Philadelphia, PA - is a television production company based in Philadelphia with hit shows including Trading Spaces and Ambush Makeover.  Banyan employs approximately 70 people and has on-site post production/editing facilities.   Responsibilities include:  assist production staff in show preparation, assist post production department, research, and assist with administrative duties which include faxing and obtaining release forms.  Students are expected to work three days per week, but required to work two 8-hour days.  Unpaid.

ACCT, MNMK - Barlett Bearing Company, Greater Northeast Philadelphia.  This company has been is business for 55 years.  They are a national industry leader distributing a wide range of bearings and related products to over 2000 clients across the country.  The company currently has over 60 employees.  A co-op student will assist in day-to-day activities of the company, primarily working with Project Managers on inventory management and controls.  Summer hours:  25-40/week  Paid.  

BUSI, COMM, MNMK - Barthco Trade Services, Philadelphia, PA. This company is a division of Barthco Americas, an OHL Company. Corporate Offices are located in the Philadelphia Navy Yard Business Park and have been headquartered in Philadelphia for over 30 years. BTS provides import and export compliance consulting services to a wide array of import and export companies across the U.S. They employ over 6,000 associates. Student intern would audit international customs documentation, determine eligibility for NAGTA and related programs, design systems for reporting. BDO Seidman’s internship program is an excellent way for students to jump in and experience the “real life” of a tax or assurance associate in one of their 35 offices nationwide. The program is deigned to give interns the same type of work and training as their entry-level associates. FSPS - Bensalem Fire Marshal's Office, Bensalem, PA.  The Bensalem Township Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for conducting annual fire prevention inspections at all commercial structures within the Township, reviewing and issuing permits related to fire protection as well as conducting completion tests for these permits, investigating suspicious fire incidents and providing fire prevention education within the community.  The intern would assist fire inspectors with their daily activities including inspections, responding to complaints from the public and fire prevention education:  8-10 hrs. per week.  Unpaid.

ACCT, CMIS, FINC -  Bio-Clinica, Newtown, PA.  This company is the world’s largest, independent provider of medical imaging management for clinical trials.  Currently, they have 230 employees at the Newtown site.  This includes six co-op students and seven temporary employees.  Computer skills are highly recommended for the co-op student.  The student will be using the company’s own system to convert digital data to appropriate format, cutting and cropping films and preparing films for technologists to review.  Full and part-time hours.  Paid.

PSYC, SOCO  - Bristol Township School District “Balance Project”, 6401 Mill Creek Road, Room A-10, Levittown, Pa. This is a two-year grant program for the purpose of evaluating the school district’s obesity prevention program design. Students will have the opportunity to participate in any level of the project. This includes after school, during special events in the evenings and possibly weekends and before school. Students will be able to contribute to program planning and execution as well as the research portion of the project and some school and city policy work as well. There are also opportunities to work with a wide variety of community organizations such as the YMCA, YWCA, Salvation Army, the Bucks County Health Department, Lower Bucks Hospital, State Representative Tony Melio’s office, etc.  Unpaid.

PSYC, SOCO - Bucks County Children & Youth, Doylestown, PA – Students will be involved in child welfare case management – working with either families in their own homes or with foster children, foster families and birth families.  Unpaid.

COMM, MNMK – Bucks County Conference and Visitors Bureau, Inc., Bensalem, PA is looking for interns to assist the Marketing Director by editing BCCVB publications and by providing support to advertising and public relations campaigns.  Unpaid.

ARTS, COMM, CMIS, MNMK - Bucks County Courier Times, Levittown, PA offers internship opportunities. Intern will work as a copy editor and perform the following duties: proofread/copyedit lists, stories, and special packages for the daily newspaper and some special sections. CRJU, COMM, ENGL, MNMK - Bureau of Consumer Protection, Center City Philadelphia, investigates unfair and deceptive business practices and enforces numerous consumer laws. Interns will be responsible for handling his or her own assigned caseload, will become familiar with the laws this office enforces, and will make recommendations given the violations noted. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to shadow our investigation process. This program is an excellent opportunity for students to acquire a working knowledge of consumer issues, and also allows them to develop their interviewing, analytical and research skills. CRJU, POLS, Pre-Law - The A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. Internship Program: Office of U.S. Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr.  Judge Leon Higginbotham Jr. was a man who confronted and fought racism throughout his life beginning his career in private practice in Philadelphia. He served his country publicly as Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of PA, and adviser to President Lyndon B. Johnson. This internship is open to students enrolled in law school or planning to enroll and are residents of Pennsylvania. Each summer, Senator Casey selects one applicant to serve as a paid intern for six weeks in his Washington D.C. office. This internship will provide the opportunity to participate in the legislative process while working to further the cause of equal justice. Each applicant must also have demonstrated interest in public service and the legislative process, be able to work and learn in diverse settings, should have a solid scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership ability, interest in public policy, strong writing skills and a record of community service. The intern will assist Dr. Showler in keeping accurate records in preparation for Middle States accreditation.  The intern will learn to input data from first-year placement to EXCEL sheets. In addition, the intern will learn the quantitative software package of SSTS as we input data from pre and posttests for first-year writing students. The intern will also learn how to use the Scantron machine to tabulate results of students’ grammar pre and posttests. ARTS, COMM, HIST, HUMN - Holy Family University Archives - Holy Family University Archives collects, organizes, preserves, and makes available for research and reference use those official University records and those ancillary records of the University community of sufficient historical, legal, and/or administrative value to warrant permanent preservation. The intern will learn basic archival theory and practice regarding photographs and gain experience in photograph preservation, cataloging, filing, description, and exhibition. ENGL, COMM - SportsRadio 610 WIP, is a sports/entertainment talk radio station targeting men ages 25-54. Interns work primarily with this department assisting in the development and implementation of station and sales promotions. They are also given the opportunity to assist both in the studio and on-site with remote broadcasts. Interns learn the basic operation of studio equipment and assist with cataloging and maintenance of station tape archives. In some cases, interns who show an interest are given the opportunity to develop broadcast writing skills by drafting a daily news and sports update which is critiqued by a member of the WIP news staff.
