BALTIMORE MARITIME MUSEUM EVENT
On Saturday June 4, 2005, OSARC held their first ever public event on board the LV 116 “CHESAPEAKE” Lightship at the Baltimore Maritime Museum. OSARC members Bill KN3EUF, Stuart WB3JNH, Ray KC2IYC and Dave W3QMR were present. Museum visitors were given lessons on Morse Code, listened to QSO’s on both HF and VHF/UHF, filled out Radio Grams, and were given interpretive presentations on the use of the “Auto Alarm” and Titanic Clock. Museum visitors were given Morse Code information, copies of an actual International Marine Radio Radio Gram and ARRL information about Ham Radio was given out to the kids. The program is geared to the kids, but adults had just as much fun learning about maritime and ham radio. BMM Events Coordinator Scott Armstrong met us on the pier at 9:30 and we began to set up. We used the mess deck tables to set up our station, and ran the coax out porthole windows and up to the main deck for antenna set up. The operation was kept simple, and yet many contacts were made. We operated the station from 10 am till 2:30 pm. The event was very successful and we have been invited back to do our presentation again. Thanks to the operators who were able to attend, and to the Baltimore Maritime Museum for giving us the opportunity to give our presentation.
