Class Notes - Class # 1

• Go through some Introductions

   

• Review the Course Outline which can be found online at http://web3.holyfamily.edu/bmacgibeny
  
  
  
• Take a quick look at Microsoft Word and PowerPoint 2007 - this is currently installed in the Holy Family Computer Labs - You Can Purchase Microsoft Office 2007 for $85 at Campusestore (that's http://www.campusestore.com)

 

• Review the requirements for your Web Site Development Project which can be found online at http://web3.holyfamily.edu/bmacgibeny

 

• Learn how to set up your Web Site Project by:

   

  • Clicking on the hotlink for Web Site Requirements which can be found online at http://web3.holyfamily.edu/bmacgibeny in the Course Outline

     

• Register with Angelfire to set up your web site at http://www.angelfire.com  If you were not successful in registering during the 1st class, complete the registration before class #2.  If you have any questions in registering, email me before class #2 at dbmacgibeny@hotmail.com To register you do the following:

  Follow the instruction below to register for your Web Site. If you have any questions in registering, email me at bmacgibeny@holyfamily.edu  
  
  To register, do the following: (I'll pretend that I am signing up for a web site for someone called Donavan McNabe)

  • Open Internet Explorer and go to http://www.angelfire.com
  • In the upper right hand corner in the "Try Angelfire for free" area, click on the "Sign Up" button
  • On the next screen, enter a User Name in the box (can be text or numbers) - make it UNIQUE - something like your 1st initial, last name, and birthday usually works - don't use spaces or caps - for example  dmcnabe041587  would be fine
  • Next, enter a password and then enter the same password again in the Confirm box
  • You'll need this user name and password to work on your web site so WRITE USER NAME & PASSWORD DOWN!
  • If Donavan entered what I said above, his User Name would be dmcnabe041587 and his web site URL would be:
      http://dmcnabe041587.angelfire.com - WRITE YOURS DOWN 
  • To work on (edit) your web site, you would go to www.angelfire.com, then enter your User Name and password - to allow someone to view your web site but not edit it, you would open Internet Explorer and enter http://dmcnabe041587.angelfire.com in the address line
  • Enter all the remaining information on that page
  • Uncheck the 4 items under "Marketing Preferences" unless you want some junk mail
  • Next, type in the goofy looking number in the box provided
  • Then click the I Agree button.
  • On next screen, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "Skip" button
  • On next screen, under the "What do you want to do?" section, click on the 3rd bubble to select "Build a Web Site with Angelfire Web Shell" and hit the Next button
  • On next screen you should be on the blue and red Angelfire Web Shell - notice in the upper right corner, it should say Hello, followed by the part of the URL you typed in - make sure you have this written down correctly in your notes and then hit the LOG OUT button right beside
  • Congratulations, you are registered and ready to start building your web site which we will do in the next part below.
